PenPal Mentors

PenPal Mentors

Penpal Mentors for People Struggling with Bullying, Depression, LGBT issues, Loneliness, etc. Or for people who just want a pal.

A penpal mentor's purpose is to cheer you up through snail mail (or email, if you prefer). You can post or submit to the site if you want a mentor. A mentor will send you a letter (including things like pictures, CDs, small dollar store items, etc.) once a week. If you write back to your mentor, he/she will respond as many times as you would like. You can post to our discussion forum at the bottom of this site to connect with other people who are struggling with similar issues. Submit your name, email address, or home address (whichever you prefer) by clicking the mail icon below or by clicking the "Ask" tab above. Your information will not be shared or made public.

We Need More Mentors!

Hey, guys!

Lately we’ve been getting an increase in the number of people who want a Penpal Mentor. We need your help! It’s a volunteer opportunity to help others and it provides a creative outlet for you to release daily frustrations or tribulations. If you want to help, we would love to have you! Just message us your interest.

The rules are simple: You write the first letter to your penpal, including a brief background about yourself. After you receive a letter from them, respond in a timely manner (within 2 weeks). You cannot pass judgment in your letters, nor can you use harsh language. You are writing each other to get to know each other better and to feel less unique in despair, so do not write to them as if you are their therapist.

Thanks!

Penpal Mentors Campaign

Hey, guys! We are now part of the indiegogo campaign. To contribute or spread the word about the campaign, visit:

Our Story

Penpal Mentors is designed for people who are struggling with bullying, depression, LGBT issues, loneliness, etc., as well as for people who just want a pal. A penpal mentor’s purpose is to cheer someone up via snail mail. Mentors send frequent letters (which include things like pictures, CDs, small dollar store items, recipes etc.) and maintain correspondence with their pals.

The Impact

The “It Gets Better” campaign has had a vast, positive impact on people struggling with depression, loneliness, LGBT issues, and bullying. However, more can be done. The penpal program provides an outlet for tribulations and daily hardships. Writing can be a creative release and, in this case, it can help people feel less alone and, in despair, less unique.

What We Need & What You Get

More than anything else, the program needs to survive. The mentors could use funds for their time and energies invested in the project.
We need your help to keep things running, especially through the next few crucial months of our growth. The program has made it this far with your support, and we truly believe that by putting all of our energies toward these efforts we will soon be able to support ourselves while continuing to reach thousands of people worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions about Becoming A Mentor

Recently, we’ve been receiving a lot of questions about how to become a penpal mentor or if we’re accepting new mentors. Our answer is below.

“I want to become a mentor. Will you consider adding more mentors or guest mentors?”

The penpal program is pretty small right now; we have 4 mentors who each have just 2 penpals. However, we are in the process of expanding (or at least trying to through social media advertising). It would be great to have more mentors once we get more penpals and we will contact you when this becomes the case. In the meantime, if you know of people who might be in need of a mentor and want to be added to the list, you can contact us with their permission and that would aid the expansion process. We’d love to get more people involved.

Anonymous asked:
How does one join the penpal list?

Hi! It’s simple; you join by messaging your name and address and we will link you up to a mentor who will send the first letter within a week.
